There’s no better way to start your wedding day than with your closest group of friends and a big smile on your face. When you have this positive energy around you, it loosens up the atmosphere and helps everyone stay calm and happy throughout the day.
There’s one occasion that comes to mind when I picture this, and that’s the wedding of Khalid Mumin and Latrice Hicks.
On the morning of the wedding, I met Khalid and his groomsmen at his beautiful Reading home. With the countless laughs, haircuts, and Jay Z playing in the background, it began to feel like we were old friends sharing stories at the barbershop.
When it was Khalid’s turn for a haircut, he switched up the music and put on some true soul. While he was dancing his heart out, you could tell how excited this man was to marry the love of his life.
I then went to the Double Tree Reading to meet with Latrice, who was getting ready in the bridal suite. As soon as I walked into the room, I noticed that her makeup artist, Kayla Malone, did a fabulous job at helping the bride shine on her wedding day.
After I photographed some details, Latrice was ready to get into her beautiful wedding dress. The Oleg Cassini gown was elegant, extravagant, and perfect for our bride.
I took some shots of the dress and talked about the big day with the bride before meeting with the groom and groomsmen downstairs in the lobby. The room’s library served as a wonderful place to take quality photos. As time started winding down, Khalid’s smile continually grew larger.
The ceremony began just after 3pm. After a brief sermon from the pastor and gorgeous renditions of “I Found Love” and “The One He Kept From Me” sang by Tiffany Edmunds, Latrice entered the room and stole the show. She looked graceful, stunning, and poised as she walked down the aisle.
After about 30 minutes, the two were announced husband and wife and the celebration began!
During cocktail hour, I had the chance to photograph portraits for family members, the bridal party, and couples at the wedding. While time was moving quickly, we were able to capture every shot we needed before heading off to the reception.
The reception started just after 6pm in the main ballroom of the hotel. After making their entrance, the newlyweds went straight into their first dance. Their dance to a live rendition of “At Last” sang by Rēdi Shorter was amazing to witness.
The rest of the reception went by in the blink of an eye. We all participated in fun events and danced throughout the night while I had a great time capturing every moment.
At the end of the night, we exited the hotel to see pouring rain outside. Latrice and Khalid stepped out into the shower to take one last wedding portrait.
I am so thankful to have been a part of this wonderful couple’s wedding day. I look forward to working with them in the future and continuing to see the love they have for each other.
